Visionary founder of the revolutionary AlignmentHORSE approach - transforming equine-human partnerships worldwide through the science of anatomy and physics of locomotion.
Liz VanRoss lives and breathes the art and science of equine transformation.
As the visionary founder of AlignmentHORSE, Liz has devoted over three decades to studying the anatomy, physiology, and psychology of both horses and human beings. This revolutionary approach to equine rehabilitation and performance was born from her lifelong passion and is changing the way horses heal, develop, and excel.
From the age of three, after meeting her first foal, Liz felt a profound connection to horses. That early spark ignited a lifelong international quest to understand these majestic animals inside and out.
For more than three decades, Liz travelled the globe working with hundreds of horses, delving deep into equine and human anatomy, locomotion, and psychology.
By mastering how a horse's body works-and how a rider's body influences it and is influenced by it-she developed a holistic insight into what makes horses move freely, feel comfortable and secure, and reach their genetic potential.
Liz's dedication to continuous learning led her to study with world-renowned experts and pioneer new techniques.
Incorporating gentle, effective bodywork to relieve equine tension
Trained under legendary therapists Jack Meagher (US) and Mary Bromiley, M.B.E. (UK)
Understanding the rider's body mechanics to create true horse-human harmony
Liz's real-world experience with horses is as wide-ranging as it is impressive. She has trained and successfully competed in traditional disciplines and ventured into diverse equestrian sports, giving her a unique understanding of the needs of different breeds and performance contexts.
Traditional training principles and competitive riding
Precision, timing, and technical excellence over fences
Combined discipline mastery and cross-country excellence
Team roping expertise and western discipline excellence
From the refinement of Arabian and Morgan competitions to the high-stepping, gaited world of Saddlebreds, Tennessee Walkers and National Show horses.
Discovering the highs and lows of team roping (heading and heeling) in Western riding disciplines.
Even the art of equestrian vaulting (gymnastics on horseback) has benefited from Liz's insight.
Within her capacity as a rehabilitation professional at Liphook Equine, Liz worked with recovering police horses brought to the hospital for surgery, illness or injury. She also offered advice and help to the Training Inspector, to help promote physical and mental health for equine officers on active duty.
Beyond her hands-on work with horses, Liz has proven her expertise in leadership roles within the equine industry.
During her tenure in Kentucky, Liz served with the U.S. Equestrian Federation (USEF) as Sports Director for Eventing and Vaulting.
Collaborated with Olympic riders and coaches
Gained invaluable insight into elite competition
In the United Kingdom, Liz took on the role of Yard General Manager at the renowned Liphook Equine Hospital, one of the largest and most respected equine hospitals in the country.
Led a large team of qualified Veterinary Nurses
Spearheaded rehabilitation programs for horses with complex injuries
Under Liz's guidance, horses with subclinical lameness and biomechanical issues received specialized training plans - often making remarkable recoveries and improvements. These leadership experiences highlight her rare combination of practical skill, scientific knowledge, and managerial acumen.
Collaborating with top veterinarians, trainers, and equine behaviourists around the world to keep refining and enhancing the AlignmentHORSE approach.
Working from the heart of France's premier horse country, while developing horses and riders from all corners of the globe.
Offering clinics, workshops, and one-on-one sessions internationally, sharing innovative techniques and strategies, educating riders and their horses to better cooperate with each other.
Her warm, authentic approach and undeniable results have earned her the trust of an ever-growing international community of horse owners and professionals.
For over twenty years, I've been riding horses, primarily in dressage and show jumping. For a long time, I felt like I was making technical progress, but I regularly encountered the same difficulties: my horse's hollow back and irregular transitions.
Nine years ago, I discovered equestrian anatomy in movement during a clinic with Liz VanRoss. It was a real revelation.
I was taught to observe the horse differently: joint function, mobility of the back, coordination, and the use of diagonals. I also became aware of the impact of my own posture as a rider; a locked pelvis or rigid hands could block the entire chain of movement.
By adapting my work, I began to see rapid changes. My horse began to use her back with more elasticity, gaining range, lightness, and stability. I felt an improvement in her comfort and mental availability.
Today, alignment work is an integral part of my practice. It has taught me to seek efficiency in the accuracy of movement, rather than in force or constraint. The most beautiful result is undoubtedly the relationship of trust and harmony that has developed with my horse. I no longer ride just to "do figures" but to maintain her balance and health.

For a quarter of a century I have searched around the globe for the "Elusive Obvious" or the "Missing Link" in developing, training and riding my horses. At last Liz has provided the missing parts of the puzzle. No holding us back now!! Thank you Liz and AlignmentHorse.

Liz's approach is like finding the missing piece of a jigsaw puzzle or the A of the ABC of something. Finally after all these years of having the lessons, going to the demos, the trainings, the clinics, reading the books, and seeing the greats, I can at last see a path to engage the horse's ability to join with his human counterpart in finding, seeking and keeping alignment. Because without alignment there is no balance and without balance there never can be a functional equine partner for us to dance with.

I am loving this approach and I truly see how it can benefit all horses! It's like we have been let in on a huge secret thanks to Liz's generosity...

"I always start from a place of deep compassion, respect, and an unwavering belief in each horse's potential. My mission is simple: to give every horse a chance to move free-from-pain, to think freely and to perform with pleasure and dignity as a partner, not a servant."
